Clinical Pathology :

Clinical pathology is the laboratory evaluation of blood, urine, body fluid or tissue samples for the diagnosis of many diseases. Common laboratory tests performed on our companion animals include blood biochemistry, complete blood counts, blood clotting tests, urinalysis, faecal exams, bacterial cultures and surgical biopsy testing.

Our practice is equipped with an in-house laboratory which enables us to quickly perform many tests in-house, this is particularly useful in very ill animals which require immediate treatment, or for pre-anaesthetic blood screening for our surgical patients. Some more specialised testing is sent to an external pathology laboratory, such testing can take 24-48 hours and up to 7 days for biopsy results.

Pet pathology, also known as veterinary pathology, is a specialized field of veterinary medicine that focuses on the study and diagnosis of diseases in animals. It involves the analysis of tissues, organs, and body fluids to identify and understand the nature, causes, and effects of diseases in pets. Pathologists utilize various techniques, including necropsies, histopathology, and laboratory tests, to provide accurate diagnoses and contribute to the effective treatment and management of illnesses in animals.
